More progress on my Stardrake.

Hobby Progress

I started assembling the Stardrake for my Stormcast Eternal Army.  I'm liking how it is going together.  My plan is to paint it up as a Blue Dragon similar to the one's see in the art of the Dragonlance series.

I just purchased a Derdeo Dreadnought with the lascannon arms, as well as the Shadow Spectre Phoenix Lord and Exarch.

Hobby Progress June 14

I've started working on Raven Guard Tactical Support Squad for my 30K army.  Additional projects for the summer:  Building the buildings from the Imperial Knight Renegade set, building an Imperial Knight Warden or Crusader, building two more Ghostkeels and three Piranhas for my Tau Army, and assembling and painting Corax, Primarch of the Raven Guard.

Angels of Death Part 2 - Cataphractii Terminators and Terminator Captain

Today I'm going over the Cataphractii terminator squad and compare it to the terminator and assault terminators from the Space Marine Codex, as well as the Terminator Captain.

The stat lines for the Terminator Captain and the Cataphractii terminator squad are identical to Captain (not considering armor) and either the Terminator Squad or Terminator Assault Squad.

The Terminator Captain is a HQ unit, and can be used in any formation from the Space Marine Codex or Angels of Death Supplement that calls for a captain.

The Cataphractii Terminator Squads are an Elite unit, and can be used in any Marine formation in the place of a Terminator Squad or an Terminator Assault Squad.  They have the same special rules as a terminator squad or terminator assault squad:  Chapter Tactics, And They Shall Know No Fear, & Combat Squads.  Their basic wargear is: Cataphractii terminator armor, Combi-bolter, Power fist, and the Sergeant has a master-crafted Power Sword instead of the power fist.

Cataphractii Terminator Armor has the following rules:  Armor save of 2+, Invulnerable save of 4+, Bulky, Deep Strike, and Slow and Purposeful.
The Combi-bolter is a twin-linked bolter.

The Terminator Captain costs the same as the Captain from the Space Marine Codex which has taken the terminator armor.  Additionally he has the option to take Cataphractii armor.  This gives him an armor save of 2+, and invulnerable save of 4+, and rerolling of 1s on any invulnerable saves.  But there is no option to upgrade the Terminator Captain to a Chapter Master.

The Cataphractii Terminator Squad cost the same as a Terminator Squad or Terminator Assault Squad.  The squad of Cataphractii Terminators can be equipped with the following options:  Any model can replace their combi-bolter and powerfist for a pair of lightning claws for free, or a model can replace its power fist with a lightning claw (free) or a chain fist (5 pts).
For every 5 models in the squad, one of them can replace its combi-bolter with a Heavy Flamer.

The Sergeant can replace is power sword with a power fist (free), lightning claw (free), or a chain fist (5 pts).  Additionally, the sergeant can equip an grenade harness for 10 points.

The unit can select a Land Raider, Land Raider Crusader, or a Land Raider Redeemer as a dedicated transport.

The grenade harness has the following profile:

Range     S    AP    Type
    8"        3    -       Assault 2, Blast

The grenade harness can be fired in addition to the combi-bolter,  In addition, models in the wearer's unit, do not suffer the penalty to their initiative for charging enemies through difficult terrain.

Angels of Death Review Part 1 - Contemptor Dreadnoughts

Here is a comparison of the Contemptor Dreadnought from the Angels of Death (AoD) Supplement to the ones from the Imperial Armor: Apocalypse and/or Volume 2 (IA) from Forge World.

First, Unit Stats, base wargear, special rules, and unit cost:

As you can see the Angels of Death version has a higher BS, more attacks, and a slightly lower cost.  

The next discussion point is the options.  

For AoD, you have two options: 

     1) You can add up to two more Contemptors to the unit for 170 points each

     2) You can swap the multi-melta for a Kheres pattern Assault Cannon for 15 points.

For IA, there are several options:

      1) You can swap the Heavy bolter for a multi-melta (free), twin-linked autocannon (+5 points), plasma cannon (+10 points), Kheres pattern assault cannon (+15 points), Twin-linked lascannon (+25 points), heavy conversion beamer (+35 points), or a dreadnought close combat weapon with built-in stormbolter (free).

      2) You can swap the dreadnought close combat weapon for a chainfist with built-in stormbolter (+10 points), multi-melta (free), Twin-linked autocannon (+10 points), Plasma Cannon (+10 points), Kheres pattern assault cannon (+15 points), Twin-linked lascannon (+25 points)

     3) You can swap the storm bolters for the following:  Heavy Flamer (+10 points), Plasma blaster (+20 points), graviton gun (+15 points), or a meltagun (+15 points)

     4) You can add the following:  Extra Armor (+10 points), Targeting Augury (+15 points), or a carapace-mounted cyclone missile launcher (+15)

As you can see the IA version has more options, but cost more overall.  For example, the IA version with a multi-melta and BS 5 costs 190 points (175 base, +15 points for Targeting Augury), and it would still have 2 less attacks.

New Acquisitions

I picked up a Whirlwind, and two scout squads today.  I plan to paint the extra armor on the Whirlwind black to make it match my Ravenguard color scheme better.

Additionally, I purchase the Tau Starter collection and a Tau Commander, so I can start building The Eight.

I've been working on assembling the models from the Betrayal of Calth set, and the Sgt is the latest model I've completed.  

Leia and Hoth Troopers 

I'm planning to use the Leia and the Hoth Troopers from the Imperial Assualt game as a Company Command Squad from my Imperial Guard Army.

I just finished the Mont'ka campaign book, and I've decided to build the Eight.  I'm also planning to add an Optimized Stealth Cadre to round out my future Tau Army.
